The Compassion of Counselors Who Make it All Happen

Midtown is blessed with an extraordinary group of therapists gifted in trauma-focused youth counseling, marriage counseling, addictions counseling and holistic family therapy.

Sue Van Wyngarden, MA, LPC: Sue leads Midtown as the Executive Director and has a passion for those who cannot access counseling due to lack of funds or cultural stigma; people, like any of us, who may have serious emotional and spiritual needs, but have nowhere to turn. Sue has always ensured that there is an open door for these clients at Midtown; her approach is to counsel family members while coordinating holistic therapy for the entire family.

Keith A. Louwerse, Psy.D.  Keith  graduated from Hope College and went on to the George Fox School of Clinical Psychology working closely with Dr. Mark McMinn, Ph.D., ABBP, one of the pioneers of Integrative Psychotherapy.  As such, I have developed a keen interest for the encounter between spirituality, faith and wellness.  My counseling paradigm entails a careful balance between the advantages of scientific methodologies, psychological theory and theological factors.  Together, we will explore not only matters of cognition, affect and behavior, but also care for the soul.

Robert Foster, MA:  Robert has had considerable success in counseling teens considered “at risk”.  As a certified addictions counselor, Robert helps clients gripped by substance abuse and how this abuse impacts family systems.  Robert also works in Midtown's On site School Counseling program at both the Holland Middle School and Holland High School.

Kailey Mattarella, LMSW: Kailey has a passion for bringing hope to this hurting world one individual at a time. She strongly believes in the power of encouraging, listening, and showing others that someone cares, as well as working through past pain and beliefs about oneself in order to live a more joy filled future. She deeply values working in settings that provide services specifically geared towards populations in vulnerable or at-risk positions, a big part of why she landed at Midtown as a counselor. Kailey also works at the City on a Hill Free Health Clinic located in Zeeland Michigan. Kailey considers it a privilege and honor to create space for individuals to grow, heal, and to develop a better future for themselves. It is her joy to serve the individuals of West Michigan in this way!

Camelia Lonsway LMSW. Camelia attended Hope College where she earned her bachelors in social work. Camelia is passionate about serving and loving people through the gifts that God has given her. She utilizes a trauma informed lens with each of her clients. She is able to see where they are and come alongside them as they begin, or continue, their healing journey.

Sarah Schemper, MA, LLPC, Sarah works with individuals and couples at Midtown Counseling and Konfara Counseling, as well as with Holland Public students through Midtown’s on-site counseling program. Her passion lies in helping people examine their current interpersonal functioning to discover patterns, identify values, and learn skills and strategies to help them identify and achieve their goals. Through using an attachment-focused and interpersonal lens, she sees that our “issues” and pain are the result of, or are inflicted through, our relationships with others, and that relationships are then also the key to healing. She is passionate about supporting people through their journey of discovering more about themselves and the unique ways God has created and gifted them.
